Brand Identity: As Strong as a Rock

Think of a food industry – usually the first ones that may come to your mind are the famous ones like McDonalds. KFC, Jollibee or any other well-known fast food industries. Now think of a shoe company – The first one that may come to mind is Nike. Have you ever wondered, how did these companies become so successful and well-known up until now? What makes them so different from other companies? That’s because of something called “Brand Identity”

Brand Identity is the visual elements of a company’s brand, meaning it is what makes up the brand of a company – a personality. From colors, shapes to the typography, every single element contributes to what shapes a company, and their intentions to the customers. However, just because you have a brand that doesn’t mean it will make you famous in a day. Building a brand identity takes time, effort and innovative thinking, and your brand must become as strong as a rock. But first, let’s take a look what considers a brand “strong”:

Before you build your brand identity, you must first understand what your customer needs, after that know what your company wants to give. Is it a product? Is it a service? Or is it both? Next, know your competitors. What sets your product or service apart from the others and what makes them stand out. After that, create a personality for your brand. A brand has many visual elements. It could be a logo, colors of choice, a company phrase, typography, or even all of them. A logo is like a shape or a symbol – like the letter “M” from McDonalds or Apple’s logo, which both are easily remembered. A very important aspect of a logo is that it needs to be recognizable. If a logo doesn’t work out for you, maybe you can create a catchphrase like Nike’s “Just do it” or KFC’s “Finger lickin’ good”. Of course, it’s not just all about logos and catchphrases, your brand also needs to be consistent with the color, like Jollibee and Mcdonald’s red and yellow color, which is also a common choice for most fast food restaurants, and there’s a proper good reason for it! After setting it all up, you are now good to go! Consistently spread awareness about your brand to the masses and you will be remembered for a very long time.

Remember, building a brand identity takes time. You have to be consistent with what you do and you have to make sure that you do it right. Consistency is always the key, and effort makes the dream work. Perhaps if you work hard enough, your brand identity may not only be as strong as a rock, but a beautifully carved statue remembered by all.
